Every year, as part of marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25th, and International Human Rights Day, December 10th, the BaBe Association organizes educational workshops and lectures and conducts public campaigns to raise awareness of problems related to women's human rights.<\/p>\n
This year we are collaborating with a theorist and a practitioner Josip Lulic<\/strong> from Center for the Theatre of the Oppressed POKAZ<\/strong>, which will use the modern pedagogical technique of newspaper theater to encourage participants to actively participate in the workshop and learn what sexism is, how to recognize it, and how to respond to it.<\/p>\n "Newspaper theatre is one of the methods of the Theatre of the Oppressed, a set of dramatic techniques that the Brazilian director Augusto Boal inaugurated in Brazil in the 1960s and 1970s, and that have since spread throughout the world and penetrated various contexts - in our case, from work in educational institutions (the Centre for Theatre of the Oppressed POKAZ has led a series of forum theatre workshops in primary and secondary schools, and for years has also participated in teaching at the studies of pedagogy, social work, pre-school education and studies for primary school teachers), through work with various organisations and collectives (CMS, Brid, Vox Feminae...) to work in the penal and educational system (the Centre for Education Dugave). We see the establishment of a dialogue about the problem as the main goal of each theatrical act (instead of the ideal of catharsis, or the presentation of a topic in which there is no connection between the experience and the conflict presented), the appropriation of aesthetics (instead of slavery to a dominant idea) and the empowerment of participants to act. Newspaper theatre, specifically, uses elements of the method of aesthetics of the oppressed and dramatic games and exercises in order to questioned and overturned the dominant narratives we find in the media, including those about gender and sex, which we will deal with in this workshop."<\/p>\n It is necessary to bring one copy of a newspaper\/magazine or screenshots from a portal or social media site with an example of sexism to the workshop.
