Within the project 'RESPONSIBILITY. Freedom of Expression', which aimed to identify and promote strategic approaches to address the threats and challenges of hate speech, fake news and intimidation, in order to preserve the democratic values of freedom of expression, was created as a publication 'Strategies against hate and disinformation'.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is a practical guide for NGOs, activists, journalists and volunteers on possible ways to combat disinformation, hate speech and intimidation, while encouraging responsible freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

The aim of this brochure is to provide an inventory of resources and tools that can be used by journalists and civil society actors who face restrictions on their freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

The brochure is based on research conducted in 2018\/2019, which included secondary research, interviews with experts, focus groups and a questionnaire. We collected experiences from all 28 EU countries, with our research primarily focused on Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania. The structure of the brochure reflects what was learned during the project. The accompanying tools were collected both through the research process and through a series of three webinar<\/em> with experts and associations dealing with current restrictions on freedom of speech.<\/p>\n

Each resource and tool presented in this brochure has been reviewed by the authors and presented in a way that connects them to the specific experiences of civil society stakeholders with restrictions on freedom of expression in EU member states. Finally, we present several recommendations for the institutions of the European Union, primarily the European Commission, to ensure better protection of freedom of expression within the EU borders.<\/p>\n

The project is led by the Austrian association "The World of NGOs<\/strong>", and the partners are\u00a0University of Vienna<\/strong>, \"SPOC<\/strong>" (Bulgaria),\u00a0Faragas Research Institute<\/strong>\u00a0(Bulgaria) and Baby<\/strong>The project is supported by the European Union under the "Europe for Citizens" programme, sub-programme 2 "Democratic engagement and civic participation.<\/p>\n
