The BaBe Association calls on all Croatian and European parliamentarians to vote today, September 12, 2017, without delay in favor of ratifying the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the so-called Istanbul Convention). The aim of the Istanbul Convention is to protect women from all forms of violence and to prevent, punish and eliminate violence against women and domestic violence. The Istanbul Convention will contribute to combating all forms of violence and discrimination, promote gender equality and ensure a comprehensive framework of policies and measures for the protection and assistance of victims of all forms of violence against women, including domestic violence. The Convention also provides guidelines for supporting organizations and institutions in establishing effective cooperation and adopting a comprehensive approach to combating violence against women and domestic violence.
BaBe calls on the Croatian and European public to support the ratification of the Istanbul Convention and warns that they should reject any form of intentional and malicious misinterpretation of the spirit of this convention and not fall for false interpretations and statements by those who do not care about protecting our women, children and families.
