Dear Mr. Karamarko,
The associations gathered at the House of Human Rights are astonished by the current police action on Varšavska Street. Namely, the police have once again detained activists who were providing non-violent resistance on Varšavska Street at a legally registered public gathering of citizens.
According to our information, the police took away about 20 activists, including attorney Slobodan Budak, by 10:00 a.m. In doing so, the police once again violated their authority.
We remind you that in February, the Misdemeanor Court in Zagreb also issued a non-final verdict (JD-328-2010, 26. 2. 2010) condemning the previous detention of activists at an identical protest held two months ago.
It is scandalous that the police are ignoring the decisions of the Court of the Republic of Croatia. We hereby demand that the detained activists be released from the police premises IMMEDIATELY and that the arrests be stopped IMMEDIATELY.
If these requirements are not met, we believe that there is justified doubt about your competence as Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia.
