The BaBe Association succeeded in a lawsuit against Portal dnevno doo for compensation for damages caused by false statements made on the web portal of the same name on 28 October 2014. The text published at that time by the author Iva Međugorac contained a series of false and extremely negative statements about the BaBe Association and its employees. By the verdict of the Municipal Civil Court in Zagreb, partially reversed by the verdict of the County Court in Rijeka, the BaBe Association was awarded compensation for damages in the amount of 20,000.00 kuna.
Since Portal dnevno doo is in bankruptcy, the BaBe association will probably never collect the awarded damages, however, we are using this opportunity to publicly point out once again the irresponsibility and lack of credibility with which certain media outlets in the Republic of Croatia act, knowing that they can make untrue claims without consequences and thus unfortunately influence the creation of a generally negative perception of other media outlets and journalists in our society who conscientiously, dedicatedly and responsibly perform their jobs.
Aware of the immensely important role of the media for the overall democratic functioning of the society we live in, we also use this opportunity to thank all the journalists and media outlets with whom we cooperate and who perform their work objectively and with dedication.
