On Sunday, May 26, Croatian citizens will elect their representatives to the European Parliament for the upcoming five-year term. As this is the only directly elected legislative body of the European Union, this is an opportunity for us to actively participate in the creation of Union policies for the second time in the history of our membership. Twelve Croatian representatives will participate in the adoption of EU regulations, decision-making on the common budget, conclusion of international agreements and supervision of other EU institutions, representing national and international interests.
The European Parliament is the cornerstone of the democratic structure of the European Union: it sets standards for fundamental human rights and freedoms within and outside the EU, promotes democratic principles in international relations, ensures fair political elections in all member states and advocates for the needs of citizens regardless of the size and political/economic power of their country. The growing role of the parliament in recent years has been reflected in reforms in the areas of labour, migration, environmental protection, and the protection of personal data and copyright, and in the coming period will certainly prove crucial in dealing with challenges such as climate change, Brexit and other turmoil among the member states, which have recently required a rethinking of the role, hierarchies and values that the EU stands for.

BaBe are members of the WAVE (Women Against Violence Europe) network, within which they are also the coordinators of the national StepUp! campaign aimed at raising awareness about the problem of violence against women and uniting in the fight against this form of violence. As part of the campaign, and in the run-up to the EU elections, we carried out a series of activities including postcards on social networks, the video campaign "The minute of loudness" and questions posed to Croatian candidates for the European Parliament. With these activities, we sought to motivate greater turnout in the elections, highlighting the power of active citizenship

We decide on the priorities and directions of the European Union's policy development by ourselves, selecting those candidates whose abilities and political decisions correspond to our vision of the future of Europe. BaBe therefore, as part of the non-partisan campaign #ovajputglasam, invite you to go to the polls and exercise your right to participate in the construction of a common, fair and sustainable Europe.

You can follow the entire campaign on our Facebook page.
