On Friday, June 14, BaBe attended the final conference of the project 'FreeEx – Responsibility. Freedom of Expression', on which they are partners. The project deals with the perspectives of civil society organizations in the European Union when it comes to freedom of expression and the prevention of hate speech and fake news.
The conference consisted of several panels dedicated to new tools in the field of freedom of expression, suppression of hate speech and fake news.
The project leaders and partners presented the results of their research to date, but also listened to what organizations across Europe are doing to protect freedom of speech. In the first panel, experts from the EU and the US presented how they are fighting fake news, hate speech, and ultimately hate crimes. Phillippe Schennach from a civil society organization ZARA (Austria), Marietta Herfort from Phiren Amenca (Hungary), Anna Tatar from NEVER AGAIN (Poland), Andreas Andreou from EQUITY (Cyprus), Ieva Ivanauskaitė from European anti-disinformation initiative Debunk.eu (Lithuania), Holly Babin from MITRE (USA). Stefan Cibian from Fagaras Research Institute from Romania summarized the panel's conclusions.
The afternoon discussion was designed as work in smaller groups. One of them was moderated by a representative of the BaBe Association.
