Every fifth young woman aged 18 to 29 years suffers online sexual harassment, and the vast majority of them also suffer sexual or physical violence from an intimate partner[1]The BaBe Association, at the beginning of the SURF and SOUND project and the comprehensive fight against online violence against women, calls on victims to report online violence and to contact us for help with full confidence.
Women are 27 times more likely to be harassed online, and online violence occurs at an extremely early age. The research showed that nine million girls in Europe suffered online bullying since her 15th birthday[2].
Given the major impact of social media and digital technology on communication in today's world, exposure to online violence for women is high.
This exposure is also visible in everyday work. legal and psychological counseling center of the BaBe association, which are recording a trend of increasing reports of online violence among the women who contact us.
Online violence against women most often manifests itself in the form of publishing intimate photos or recordings on the internet and social networks, and after the rapid and uncontrolled spread of such materials, the problem for victims is becoming increasingly serious. Due to established gender stereotypes and the general public's lack of knowledge about the issue, women face social condemnation and exclusion and by shifting the responsibility from the abuser to the victim, i.e. with a message - It's your own fault.
We tell them: "It's not your fault!"
