BaBe dedicated this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to the issue of sexual crimes, because sexual harassment, rape and other sexual crimes clearly demonstrate how difficult it is to influence the rejection of prejudices that have been transmitted and strengthened in the minds of individuals and communities for centuries. Presidential candidates Vesna Pusić and Ivo Josipović also came to the action on Cvjetni trg.
Despite more than two decades of struggle for women's human rights by the feminist movement in Croatia, today the feeling of shame and personal guilt still burdens the victim, not the perpetrator, of sexual crimes. Therefore, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25, BaBe organized a street action "Rape" on Zagreb's Cvjetni Square, the aim of which was to sensitize state institutions towards women victims of sexual violence. During the action, we distributed brochures in which, among other things, we warn about prejudices and myths about rape and inform about the legally prescribed rights of women victims of rape and other sexual crimes.
Presidential candidates Vesna Pusić and Ivo Josipović provided support during the campaign by coming, while presidential candidates Milan Bandić and Nadan Vidosevic expressed their support for the campaign in writing.
A web portal has also been designed for the needs of the campaign. www.rape.org where you can leave your comments and find basic information for all women seeking help.
