For the third year in a row, the Croatian Parliament is celebrating International Day of Democracy, September 15. proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2007 with the aim of promoting democratic values.
This year, on this occasion, the Executive Committee of the National Group of the Croatian Parliament at the Inter-Parliamentary Union organized a round table "Political accountability – creating connections between parliament and citizens"The round table was opened by the President of the Croatian Parliament. Luka Bebic, and besides him, the following participated in the round table:
Sandra Pernar, president of the GONG association, who presented the results of the research "Local and Transparent Administration and Self-Government - LOTUS";
Igor Dragovan, President of the Committee for Petitions and Complaints of the Croatian Parliament;
Suzana Kunac, M.Sc., head of the gender equality program, BaBe, highlighted the problems faced by civil society organizations, including extremely short procedures for passing laws;
Ruzica Simunovic, Head of the Public Relations Service of the Croatian Parliament, commented on the Service's work on raising awareness, especially among the school and student population;
Dr. Berto Šalaj, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, explained to the participants the concept of political responsibility in the relationship between citizens and their elected representatives.
The roundtable was also attended by members of the Croatian Parliament, officials and representatives of cities and municipalities that participated in the research, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations and the media.
