Counseling center on wheels (Ljubica, Zdravka, Senka, Stela, Sanja...) travels around Croatia and, together with local partner organizations, provides legal and psychological assistance to people who do not know, and even more often cannot, get quality counseling from institutions. Smaller towns in Vukovar-Srijem County, Gračac, the area around Knin... are just some of the places we have visited and talked to people (primarily women) who do not know how to find a solution to the problems and violations of rights that have most often occurred to them for many years - unemployment, violence, little or no social assistance, housing...
It is a sad situation that we find everywhere. Without sufficient human or material capacities, with the often completely incomprehensible indifference of officials, institutions deny citizens in smaller communities the realization of their fundamental human rights. There is no employment, no housing for the poor, there is not even basic information about the possibilities of realizing at least some rights - one could almost say, there is no hope at all. Most do not know that they are entitled to free legal aid, they have no idea that the Croatian Bar Association provides free legal representation in procedures for determining and realizing child support. Not to mention psychological support.
Last weekend we were in Gračac and Knin. We traveled in sandals, and then we were caught in ice and snow. In the library in Gračac, amidst all the sadness and despair of the women who told us their stories, we also found an interesting photo Heroines from Lika obtained by librarian and project associate Vesna Bogunović - Even without the Gender Equality Act, the feminine gender was used 100 years ago, and today, despite the law, many women think that there is no future for them and their children, let alone a better one.
Will something and someone in this country finally get moving and start working for the benefit of the citizens and not just for their own benefit?!
