It seems that with all the work we do, we should hire one person who will just listen carefully to all of Prime Minister Zoran Milanović's statements and immediately inform us when we need to draft a statement condemning what was said and send it to the public. Since we do not have such a person, we will only briefly review on our own website the Prime Minister's latest statement in which he speaks about the Member of Parliament and Member of the European Parliament Ruža Tomašić.
Although we do not agree with her political views at all and consider them discriminatory for all citizens of the Republic of Croatia who are not Croats, we unreservedly condemn the method repeatedly used by Zoran Milanović. We also believe that such a way of communicating deepens conflicts that should have been a thing of the past long ago. Instead of an argumentative and calm explanation of why we should not support the views of MP Tomašić, the Prime Minister grossly violates the standards of decent communication by speaking about a middle-aged woman and politician, calling her a natural disaster: "Ruža Tomašić is worse than a natural disaster. Citizens in many countries have chosen all sorts of things."
We can only say that Ruža Tomašić has the right to her political views, and we can agree or disagree with them, but we must always politely explain why we find them unacceptable without personal and mundane insults.
Zoran Milanović's speech is worse than all the statements of his political opponents because, attacking them in the name of protecting human rights, he actually promotes intolerance, insults and contempt for others.
If it may not be hate speech, it is certainly violent speech.
