The BaBe Association celebrated this year again International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and 16 days of activism against violence against women by implementing and participating in various activities in Vukovar-Srijem County.
On November 22, 2018, we participated in a roundtable organized by the Vukovar Women's Association, aimed at developing and improving multisectoral cooperation between all institutions that deal with the issue of violence against women in their work. The roundtable was attended by 17 representatives of associations, institutions and organizations from the City of Vukovar.
The next day, the head of our Safe House of Vukovar-Srijem County participated as a speaker at a panel discussion at the Faculty of Law in Osijek with the topic "Shelters for women victims of violence - challenges and new opportunities"The discussion was organized by the Women's Association "Izvor" from Tenja, in co-organization with the Faculty of Law Osijek, the Commission for Gender Equality of the City of Osijek and the County Team for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Violence against Women. The topic of the panel was "Implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence".
On 26 and 27 November 2018, in cooperation with the Gender Equality Commission of Vukovar-Srijem County and the Vukovar Women's Association, in the premises of the European House Vukovar and the Vukovar Women's Association, psychologist BaBe of the Vukovar-Srijem County Safe House held three educational workshops on the topic of dating violence, in which students of the Gymnasium, the Nikola Tesla Technical School and the School of Economics from the City of Vukovar participated. The aim of the workshops was, in addition to discussing this sensitive topic and exchanging experiences and opinions, to inform young people about different forms of violence, how to recognize dating violence, what its consequences are, and what personal and legal mechanisms exist for protecting and sanctioning it.
On November 30, 2018, the head of our shelter, also a member of the Vukovar-Srijem County Gender Equality Commission, participated in a special session held in the Vukovar-Srijem County Council on the topic "Multisectoral cooperation and implementation of the Istanbul Convention", because it represents an important framework for more effective interdepartmental cooperation and the implementation of policies that will contain a multitude of measures to be taken by various stakeholders and bodies and which, as a whole, offer a complete response to violence against women. Also, on this occasion, given that the Vukovar-Srijem County Safe House was founded exactly 10 years ago by the BaBe association in cooperation and with the support of the Vukovar-Srijem County, this anniversary was also modestly marked and we presented to the Commission an overview of the work of our shelter over the past ten years.
