B.a.B.e . is an organization founded in 1994 with the purpose of promoting and protecting women's human rights, which today focuses on promoting gender equality and ensuring equal opportunities for all genders in all spheres of social life. The activities of the association are structured through four strategic programs: Gender Equality, Prevention and Combating Gender-Based Violence, Safe House, and Public Policy and Advocacy.

Programs

Gender equality

The Gender Equality Programme was launched with the aim of including the concept of gender equality in all national, regional and local policies, using relevant methodologies (research, public policy analysis, consulting, monitoring implementation) and raising public awareness. The programme's activities include educating decision-makers on the concept of gender equality and gender mainstreaming, monitoring, analysis and reporting on gender equality and policy shortcomings in this regard, and public campaigns organised to raise public awareness about key aspects of gender inequality.

Prevention and suppression of gender-based violence

The Prevention and Combating of Gender-Based Violence Program is a continuation and expansion of the scope of activities of the Legaline program, which was launched in 1995 and is one of the oldest programs of the organization. The purpose of the program is to provide legal and psychosocial assistance to victims of violence and to identify shortcomings in existing legislation and/or failures in the implementation of responsible institutions through direct communication with citizens. The program has established a legal and psychological counseling center (free of charge for all citizens), conducts strategic disputes, monitors and tracks the impact on the formulation of public policies and laws in the field of gender-based violence.

Safe house

The program enabled the opening and operation of the Safe House in Vukovar-Srijem County, which provides existential conditions and psychosocial support to victims of domestic violence (women and children). The safe house simultaneously provides accommodation for up to twelve women and eight children from all over Croatia for a maximum of one year. Professional associates are making great efforts to provide victims of violence with adequate assistance in overcoming the trauma they have experienced and regaining self-confidence during the process of becoming independent, or finding employment and housing. The goal of this program is to ensure the sustainability of services and the stability of the functioning of the Safe House and the counseling center for legal and psychological assistance to victims of violence, as well as complementary services for socio-economic empowerment in the Vukovar-Srijem County.

Public policies and advocacy

The Public Policy and Advocacy Program is aimed at increasing the influence of the concept of human rights on legislation and practice in the field of combating discrimination and in the field of protecting the right to public expression and freedom of opinion, assembly, etc. B.a.B.e . are recognized by the public as an organization for women's human rights, but also as an organization that reacts to all forms of human rights violations. The aim of this program is to monitor legislative procedures, public policies and implementation measures in the areas of combating discrimination and violations of human (fundamental) rights (with a focus on monitoring implementation activities and measures and their functioning in practice at all levels) and advocacy from the standpoint of gender perspective and respect for human rights.
