In the scope of the project "puSHEd – protect, understand, support: help the elderly", on November 14, 2022, the first focus group was held with experts who work with older women victims of violence. The project in question began its implementation on June 1, 2022, and is implemented by the BaBe association Be active. Be emancipated. in partnership with the City of Zagreb, the Home for Children and Adult Victims of Domestic Violence “Duga – Zagreb” and the Zajednički put Foundation.
We would like to remind you that this is a project that aims to prevent and combat gender-based violence against older women by developing gender-specific responses in providing support to victims and building the capacity of relevant stakeholders in the protection and support system. The project also aims to raise awareness of the general population and improve the community's response to gender-based violence against older women, primarily by increasing the number of reports of violence and preventing it.
Focus groups are organized with the aim of identifying obstacles encountered when working with older women victims of violence. The target group is experts from the system of support for women victims of violence, with an emphasis on civil society organizations.
The project itself relies on the Istanbul Convention and is aimed at promoting gender equality and non-discrimination as key European values and fundamental principles for eradicating gender-based violence against older women. The project was financed with funds from the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) program of the European Union in the amount of €208,716.34.
The three-day training "Introducing quality standards when developing public policy guidelines" was held from 19 to 21 October in the premises of the socio-cultural centre "Šesnaestica". The training was attended by representatives of the Department of Sociology, University of Zadar, and civil society organisations: BaBe Budi aktivna. Budi emancipiran., Association for Human Rights and Civic Participation PaRiter, Association 'HERA' Križevci - For the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights, Center, Women's Association "IZVOR", Croatian Association of Business Women Krug, Space for Gender and Media Culture K-zona, Women's Group Korak Karlovac, CESI - Centre for Education, Counselling and Research, Parents' Association "Korak po korak".
The first day of the training was devoted to theoretical concepts of public policy, so we dealt with the determination of public policies and the models and classification of public policies and policy actors. Also, in groups, we did an exercise where we analyzed the current state of the environment using a SWOT analysis and defined stakeholders important for public policies.

On the second day, we analyzed the preliminary results of the research in detail.Survey of public opinion and the needs of parents of minor children” conducted by the University of Zadar (2022) as part of the project. From the aforementioned research, we defined the main problems, which were the uneven use of parental sick leave in the event of a child's illness, the lack of full-day and extended stay programs, and the lack of capacity in kindergartens and nurseries. Using a problem tree, we defined the immediate causes and consequences of the aforementioned observed problems in three groups.

On the third day, we continued working in groups, transforming the problem tree into a goal tree. Based on the results of research by the University of Zadar, we defined the main problems for which we worked on designing possible policy instruments in relation to the defined goals.

The three-day training, led by Suzana Kunac, is part of the project “The impact of public policies on the quality of family and working life and on the demographic picture of Croatia – spaces of change” whose implementation began on 28.10.2020. and lasts 36 months. The value of the project is 3,599,941.69 HRK, of which 15% is financed from the state budget of the Republic of Croatia, and 85% from the European Social Fund. The project aims to strengthen civil society organizations included in the Thematic Network through partnerships, cross-sectoral cooperation with higher education institutions, and local and regional self-government units in order to achieve effective social dialogue with the purpose of developing and proposing adequate public policies, adapted to the cultural specificities of each region, in order to contribute to the harmonization of the private and business lives of citizens of the Republic of Croatia.

On September 27, 2022, as part of the project "The Impact of Public Policies on the Quality of Family and Working Life and on the Demographic Picture of Croatia - Spaces of Change", Cross-Sectoral Synergy Meetings were held simultaneously in 4 cities. The meetings were held in Križevci (organized by the Hera association), Split (organized by the Domine association), Poreč (organized by CGI Poreč) and Rijeka (organized by the PaRIter association). The general goal of the meetings was to establish meaningful and comprehensive measures, activities and recommendations for public policies for the harmonization of private and business life in accordance with the development specificities of the regions in which the project is implemented.
The specific objectives were to present the research of the University of Zadar conducted within the project, to conduct a structured dialogue and local consultations with decision-makers on at least one challenge/recommendation highlighted through the research findings that is regionally specific, and to create a joint, cross-sectoral plan for overcoming regional specificities/challenges identified by local stakeholders.
The University of Zadar presented the results of a public opinion survey on the reconciliation of private and professional life among parents of minor children in Croatia via Zoom. The results of the survey were followed simultaneously by participants in all 4 meetings in 4 cities, after which they were given the opportunity to ask questions to the research team in Zadar. After reviewing the survey results, the meeting participants discussed, each in their own city, the problems and needs of working parents of minor children and tried to devise potential solutions considering local specificities. After the group work was completed, the cities shared the results of their discussions via Zoom. What all participants noticed, regardless of location, was the lack of places in kindergartens and nurseries, the lack of extended and full-day programs, and limited flexibility of the workplace and parents' time. As a result of these meetings, the "4th Shift - Invisible Work" network will compile proposals for measures, activities and recommendations for public policies on the reconciliation of private and professional life.
