Implementation period of the first year of the project: 1.4.2024. – 31.12.2024.

Project finances: National Foundation for Civil Society Development

Total project value: 80.000 €

Description project:

The thematic systematic support of the National Foundation for Civil Society Development in the area of "Reconciling private and business life" is a continuation of the project from 2015. "Women in the labor market - gender impact assessment" and a project that ended in 2023. "The impact of public policies on the quality of family and working life and on the demographic picture of Croatia - spaces of change"  who, thanks to scientific research (Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb and Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar - Department of Sociology), confirmed that the issue of balancing obligations in private and business life is closely linked to social policy and measures aimed at providing assistance for the care and attention of dependent family members, the flexibilization of work and working hours of employees, tax policy, health insurance, poverty rates, demographic trends and generally available services at the national and local levels, and is closely linked to the roles and expectations that women and men have in the family, but also to the expectations imposed by the labor market.

Of particular interest to us is the position of women in the labor market, their social status and gender roles in the family, which are marked by the specificity of Croatian society, which, although integrated into the political and economic framework of the European Union, is faced with inflation and global economic risks, with significant demographic changes due to emigration and negative natural growth, and employment with growth characteristics during the tourist season. All available data confirm that one of the greatest obstacles to greater employment of women and their career advancement is the need to reconcile family and work obligations.

The aim of the project is to raise awareness among the general population, employers and decision-makers about the importance of changing traditional gender roles and establishing gender equality, as well as changing inadequate public policies as a prerequisite for improving the quality of family life, halting negative demographic trends, increasing women's participation in the labor market and supporting employers to retain a quality workforce in Croatia. This is a continuation of the association's many years of work on contributing to the improvement of public policies in the area of balancing private and work obligations of employees.

Activities in the first year of project implementation include continuing cooperation with higher education institutions, conducting a public advocacy campaign based on the results obtained through scientific research, holding thematic conferences on models of balancing private and work life with relevant stakeholders, and media publications that contribute to raising awareness among the public and relevant stakeholders about the complexity of the topic.

Project name: Thinking Locally, Acting Nationally: Empowering Local Human Rights CSOs in Underdeveloped Areas

------------------

Project duration: March 28, 2013 – September 29, 2014.

Project description:

The project is implemented by the BaB e. association, from March 28, 2013 to September 29, 2014, in partnership with the associations ZvoniMir (Knin) and Delfin (Pakrac), and in cooperation with the Legalina association (Gračac), and thanks to the financial support of the European Union, the Office for Cooperation with NGOs of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the National Foundation for Civil Society Development. The aim of this project is to strengthen local human rights associations, as well as to improve relations between the public sector and human rights associations in the process of implementing anti-discrimination measures.

This project is carried out on two levels, with education and training of local associations as the most important factor in improving capacity. It implies targeted education of partner CSOs and associations from the target areas (counties listed below) on human rights, anti-discrimination measures and analytical policies such as qualitative research methods and advocacy. Special emphasis is placed on anti-discrimination policy at the local level so that participants can further create recommendations or reports on the state of respect or violation of human rights. Monitoring mechanisms will be established to monitor the implementation of anti-discrimination policies. At the same time, this activity assumes ethnographic research on the topic of discriminatory practices and human rights violations in the target areas. This implies training on conducting qualitative research (focus groups, individual interviews) that will be carried out by an expert with BaBe and partner organizations in the target areas where interviews with both focus groups and individual interviews will be conducted, all with the aim of collecting information on the population's awareness of discrimination and anti-discrimination measures.

2. The second level refers to the direct provision of assistance to victims of discrimination and human rights violations in the Požega-Slavonija, Šibenik-Knin and Lika-Senj counties and the Gračac municipality.

Project name: Counseling center for the prevention and suppression of all forms of violent behavior in the family

Project duration: 01.07. 2013 -31.12.2013.

Project description:

It is an undeniable fact that violence is present in Croatian families, as is the lack of information among citizens about fundamental human rights (the right to life, the right to bodily integrity and dignity). Citizens are generally completely ignorant of the procedures for legal resolution of problems and do not recognize the legal basis and legal basis for resolving important life issues, such as, for example: regulating property relations between spouses or the effects of marriage and cohabitation. An additional problem is the lack of preventive programs against domestic violence, since the most common form of protection is reactive because it occurs only when violence occurs. This is confirmed by statistical data from institutions and internal records that we have been keeping for nineteen years. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior for 2012, 17,976 cases of domestic violence were registered. In relation to the gender, age and recidivism of perpetrators of domestic violence offenses committed during 2012, 14,444 of the total number of perpetrators were male. Following the above data, and starting from the fact that violence is a form of discrimination regardless of gender and taking into account the fact that women are most often victims of domestic violence - the target groups defined by the project design are highly relevant.

The goal of this project is to establish a healthy society in which each person fulfills their emotional and creative potential and establishes healthy and successful relationships within the family and the wider community with the wholehearted help of institutions and organizations that act synergistically for the common good.

Specific objectives: to ensure the continuous work of a legal team that will provide legal protection to victims of violence by providing free legal aid (in various ways) and legal representation; to ensure the continuous work of a psychological team that will provide psychosocial support to victims and perpetrators of violence by providing free psychological counseling and therapeutic meetings; to improve the level of existing services provided by social welfare institutions in the field of protection from domestic violence, especially with regard to the prevention of violence, its recognition and effective suppression; to establish continuous cooperation with existing institutions of the system; to establish a model of a team approach to solving problems in the family, especially all forms of violent behavior; to prevent future violence by raising awareness and sensitization of the wider community on issues of recognition, protection and appropriate response in cases of domestic violence (campaigns, media activities, organizing forums and round tables, printing brochures, etc.).
