National minorities and the media
In Pakrac and Požega (17 and 18 May 2010) and Vukovar and Dalj (24 and 25 May 2010), round tables were organised under the title "National Minorities and the Media – Representation and Possibilities of Using Media Space". The idea was to raise issues of minority representation in the media space and the way minorities are present in the media in general, as well as to encourage discussion between members of minority and majority peoples about acceptable topics and issues for radio broadcasts.
The roundtables were organized as part of a project implemented by BaBe in partnership with the Civic Organization for Development Dalj (GORD) and the association "Delfin" from Pakrac, entitled: "Bridging Troubled Waters: Let's Hear Majority and Minority Voices on Air". The project is funded by the EU under the program European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR),.
The main objectives of this project are: to increase awareness of the rights of minorities, their needs and specific roles, and the potential they have for local communities, as well as to encourage communication and cooperation between the majority and minorities in Slavonia and to increase the visibility of minorities in local media, which ultimately contributes to the development of a more tolerant and inclusive society.
