As part of the Global Media Monitoring Project, on November 10, 2009, teams in more than a hundred countries around the world monitored the media. The goal of the project, which began in 1995, is to map the representation of women and men in the world's news media. For this purpose, 1,281 newspapers, television and radio stations and an Internet portal were monitored, i.e. 16,734 newspaper articles, 20,769 anchors, announcers and journalists and a total of 35,543 people in the news. Unfortunately, the results this year again show a significant underrepresentation of women in the news, who are also regularly presented in a stereotypical manner.
