The division of Croatia is clearly in someone's interest. What was smoldering is burning today. At all levels. A meaningless referendum that will not change anything fundamentally has managed to show that conservative Croatia does not shy away from spending money it does not have to show its strength. The events in Vukovar have even more far-reaching consequences. For what and for whom?
Isn't the poverty in which a large part of the citizens live a sufficient burden? With which no government has yet been able to cope and find solutions, at least for the near future. Young people cannot be promised anything, but they can be fed hatred towards others and those who are different. A poor country in which, in 2013, after the experience of war and suffering, they are systematically working on divisions, as opposed to rapprochement.
It seems that hatred and intolerance feed the hungry, comfort the grieving, and awaken hope in the hopeless.
Sad and too sad.
But, since it is what it is, we need to raise our voices and rebel against division and counting.
In the name of the dignity of every human being, and of all families where love and understanding reign, regardless of the number and gender of members, the referendum should be marked AGAINST.
In the name of common sense, we should say YES to Cyrillic because the script did not kill or disfigure anyone. The first written monuments of the Croatian people were written in this script. And it cannot be that all members of the Serbian national minority are guilty of wartime suffering. And it is not possible that children born after 1990 in Vukovar are also guilty. And how do they feel today when a mass of adults are running around the streets, breaking plates and shouting, all because of a script that is part of the cultural identity of a large number of people on this planet?
Sad and too sad.
The essence of a developed democracy is to ensure equal rights for every person, regardless of the minority group they belong to, as long as their difference does not threaten the rights of others. The loud and angry majority, which is in no way threatened, should be told this clearly to their faces. Without hatred, but in a warning tone.
They may not know what they are doing, but the sensible know that their actions do not bring any good. For all of us who are doomed to each other.
